High-Risk, High Reward: Kris Letang

(4/4/12) When you think about high-risk, high-reward players on the Penguins, the first name that pops into your head is Sidney Crosby.  But another guy who provides fantasy owners with a boom or bust selection for playoff pools is defenseman Kris Letang.

Letang has missed time with a concussion this year (two concussions actually, sound familiar?), and recently he's dealt with a lower-body injury that kept him out of action a few games.  We currently have him as the #1 rated defenseman in our Playoff Guide, thanks to his .80 points-per-game average, and the fact that the Pens are our pick to win the Cup.  But in spite of the ranking, we definitely understand the downside.  Any owner picking Letang is taking a big risk that he'll hold up, and we wouldn't blame anyone for considering a safer option at the top of the draft.

At this point though, Letang appears rested and in top form.  He recorded three assists last night against the Bruins, and he led all Penguins in TOI, logging over 24 minutes.
