Devils Trade for Ponikarovsky

Standard Spin: New Jersey has acquired Alexei Ponikarovsky from the Hurricanes in exchange for prospect Joseph Sova and a 4th rounder in next year's draft.  The move shores up the Devils' forward rotation with a veteran scorer, but we doubt it will have much of a fantasy impact.

Ponikarovsky did average 20 goals over five seasons with the Leafs from 2005 to 2010, but he's dropped off in a big way since.  He's now floundered through a quarter of a season in Pittsburgh, a full season in Los Angeles, and a half season in Carolina, scoring just 14 goals in 126 games, and there's no reason to think he'll suddenly be reborn in New Jersey.  Unless you're in an ultra-deep league and looking for a longshot reclamation project, there's really nothing to see here.  (Jan.20)
