Shanahammer Drops: Torres, Neal, Asham, Backstrom, Shaw

(4/18/12) And in our newest feature, let's count down the top 5 NHL suspensions from last night's action!  Seriously though, what's going on in the NHL?  Too many players seem to have no respect for their opponents, and the NHL's discipline czar is being forced to wield the Shana-hammer like that old arcade game where you wildly bonk the gopher heads that keep popping up.  Today, we have no less than five suspensions to report.

Raffi Torres took a run at Marian Hossa in last night's game, hitting Hossa in the head and sending him to hospital with a suspected  concussion.  The NHL announced this morning that Torres is suspended indefinitely, and he'll be meeting with Brendan Shanahan on Friday to find out his full punishment.  Here's the hit...

Arron Asham PIT - 4 games for cross-checking Brayden Schenn

James Neal PIT - 1 game for a pair of reckless hits on Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux

Nicklas Backstrom WAS - 1 game for cross-checking Rich Peverley

Andrew Shaw CHI - 3 Games for hitting Coyotes goalie Mike Smith with a blow to the head.
