Alfredsson Will Play in 2012-13
(7/31/12) It's official: Daniel Alfredsson will return to play another season in the NHL, his 17th in what will likely become a Hall of Fame career. In 2011-12, Alfredsson bounced back from injuries to record 27 goals and 59 points in nearly a full season, following an injury-plagued 31 point/51 game season in '10-11.
His return means we do not need to downgrade the fantasy potential of his line-mates too much. Spezza is a scoring machine on his own and we project him to have a fine season with or without Alfie, while Milan Michalek appears to have overachieved last year and we are still bumping his projections down, albeit not as much with Alfredsson in the line-up.
Alfredsson's current contract is up at the end of this year, which leads us to predict that this season will in fact be his swan song. The potential for injury persists; most recently, Alfie suffered a concussion in last year's first round loss to the Rangers. Don't overvalue him on draft day.
