Bryzgalov, Varlamov Shutouts a Good Sign

(3/5/12) Ilya Bryzgalov has taken a ton of heat this fantasy season for not living up to the hype that surrounded his arrival in Philly last summer.  But, Sunday he blanked a desparate Capitals team, stopping 34 shots for his third shutout of the season.  Bryzgalov now has 24 wins and it isn't a stretch to expect him to reach the 30 win mark, especially with the Flyers still needing a strong finish to secure a playoff spot.  We foresee Philly riding Bryzgalov down the stretch and for the netminder to finish the season with numbers closer to what was expected of him at the outset of the season.  A couple more shutouts is also a reasonable expectation.

Of note: Semyon Varlamov got his 19th win and 4th shutout of the season on Sunday.  Like Bryzgalov in Philadelphia, the Avalanche will likely turn to Varlamov down the stretch as the team challenges for a playoff spot.
