Fantasy Update: Bogosian, Eberle, CBA
(1/9/12) The Winnipeg Jets have announced that Zach Bogosian has undergone wrist surgery and will miss the next 4 to 6 months thanks to recovery time. Bogosian went under the knife to repair what Reuters is calling a "chronic ligament tear." Of course with the ongoing collective bargaining saga, the longer we wait the less this injury will mean, but regardless your rankings should be updated. (Source: NY Times)
Bogosian hit the 30 point mark last season in just 65 games (0.46 points/game) and has additional starting value in roto pools, as he was one of only four defensemen last season to record at least 30 points, 50 PIMs, 100 hits, and 100 blocks.
The Edmonton Oilers have re-upped Jordan Eberle to the tune of 6 years and $36 million. This deal could wind up being a steal if Eberle continues his advancement this season. He was 2 points shy of the 1.0 point/game mark last season, and we foresee another bump when the puck finally drops on the 2012-13 campaign.
On the labor dispute front, talks broke off on Friday, August 31st, and it is reported that no new meetings are scheduled, while the lockout date of Sep. 15th looms in the near distance. No doubt both sides are digging in their heels over the main stumbling ground, which we reveal in full detail in our "CBA Report" in the 2012-13 Regular Season Draft Guide. In our opinion a lockout is imminent, although a complete cancelation of the season is unlikely, and we predict a Winter Classic start date of January 1st.
