SUN Injury Update: Toews, Letang, Gustavsson, MacArthur
(4/1/12) Many hockey pools use weekly roster moves and, therefore, seeing a player on our injury reports this week is going to hurt if the shift change has come and gone. If you have the luxury of daily moves, or if your roster moves haven't occurred yet, hopefully our injury notes give you an edge in the final week.
The biggest story for today is that Jonathan Toews has been cleared for contact at practice. The announcement comes on the heels of a Blackhawks' victory that clinched a playoff berth, so it's good news all around for the team's chances at a postseason run this spring. Toews has been out since Feb. 19th, he's missed 19 games, but he's been skating for the past 2 weeks. Joel Quenneville said "we're hopeful that maybe we can get him in before the end of the season" (NHL.com), so don't go plugging him into your starting lineup just yet. This announcement is more relevant to playoff pool drafts than it is to the finale of regular season fantasy leagues.
Our second top story is regarding Kris Letang, who is "a game-time call" for Sunday, April 1st - as reported by the Pens Inside Scoop on Twitter. Letang has been out with a LBI following a crash into the boards a week ago. This is great news for the playoffs; hopefully Letang can get back up to speed over the next couple of weeks.
And a couple notes for the Leafs. Saturday, Clarke MacArthur recorded his first points (2A) since returning to the lineup last week. While Jonas Gustavsson (leg) did not dress, meaning the Maple Leafs are currently without their top two goalies. Ben Scrivens started and won against Buffalo, and he will likely play until either James Reimer or Gustavsson return because rookie Jussi Rynnas had a tough go of it in the 7-1 loss to Philadelphia on Thursday.
