Tuesday Injury Update
(2/28/12) Quite a few big names showed up on the injury report Tuesday, but the biggest news is that Niklas Lidstrom is out with a bruised ankle. He was apparently hit by a shot in Saturday's game, and he's now considered day-to-day. Teammate and fellow D-man Kyle Quincey is also out Tuesday for the Wings. He's battling a groin injury.
And more bad news for fantasy owners, as Florida's Kris Versteeg is out at least three games with a lower-body injury. There isn't much more info than that, so let's hope it doesn't go beyond this time frame. It's a bit of a strange announcement though, as three games would take us through Saturday, but then the Cats play again Sunday. We have to speculate that if Versteeg is out one day he's probably out the next, and so at best he'll return next week on Thursday when the Panthers travel to Philly.
According to the Toronto Sun, Joffrey Lupul was sporting a soft-cast on his wrist Monday. It raises alarm bells, but they point out Lupul has been dealing with the injury since nine days ago in Vancouver, and he's been able to play through it thus far. He's officially questionable for tonight against the Panthers, but he's made it through three games now and there's no reason to think he won't suit up again. With that said, Lupul has only one assist in those games, so we have to wonder if it's hindering his performance.
The injury to Mikko Koivu continues to drag on, as he's is expected to miss his sixth straight game Tuesday.
For San Jose, Logan Couture left Sunday's game with a lower-body injury after a hit by Kyle Brodziak. Couture is questionable tonight against the Flyers. Newly acquired Dominic Moore is also questionable after missing the last three games with an undisclosed injury.
Hurricanes netminder Cam Ward missed the last three games with a lower-body injury, but he's probable for Tuesday. Considering his struggles this season, he's only an option in larger fantasy leagues, although he can still give you a start in a pinch.
Getting to some smaller names, Shawn Thornton missed practice Monday with flu symptoms, but he's expected to play Tuesday against the Senators.
Jared Boll is getting closer and closer for the Blue Jackets, but he's still doubtful for Tuesday against Detroit. He's missed the last three weeks with a broken foot. He should be back very soon, and if you need an enforcer he's a good pick-up.
Nothing new on Josh Bailey, as he remains questionable against Washington. He's missed the Islanders' last two games with back spasms.
And the Lightning have a nasty bout of the flu going through half the team. Brendan Mikkelson, Nate Thompson, and Teddy Purcell are all under the weather and questionable to play Tuesday. As well, defenseman Victor Hedman will miss a second consecutive game with an upper-body injury.
