Vid: Gagner's Game of a Lifetime
Standard Spin: Make some room, Paul Coffey. Step aside, Great One. Sam Gagner tied an Oilers' record shared by the two Hall-of-Famers Thursday, becoming the first NHL player to record eight points in a single game since Mario Lemieux in 1988. Gagner factored in on every goal of a spirited 8-4 Edmonton win over the Blackhawks and stunned the fantasy world with the performance of the season.
The worst part is most fantasy owners didn't even have him in the lineup. Coming into tonight, Gagner had only five goals and 22 points in 44 games - his career high for goals in a season is only 16 - and was owned in only 8% of Yahoo Leagues. For the odd owner that had Gagner in there, congratulations, this is a night to remember... it hasn't happened for 23 years! For those that had him on the bench... you might want to spend the night under observation in a padded room. And for those of you thinking of picking him up... meh, go ahead, but don't get carried away. Perhaps Gagner gets a temporary boost of confidence from this, but we don't see it translating to a sudden breakout in the second half. (2/3/12)
